My sister, Nicole, and I decided to try out a sugar detox to kickstart healthier eating. After about five minutes of research and seeing a lot of 21 DAYS! 40 DAYS! I settled to do the Today Show 10 Day Sugar Detox. It's a 10 day challenge, and not nearly as intense as some of the other plans. I mean, some of them cut out all sugar. All. Sugar. That's insane. I didn't want to cut out fruit. That doesn't make any sense. This one, which actually already happened if you wanted to bond with the Today show hosts, only cuts out added sugar. You are still allowed natural sugars that occur in milk and produce.
I bought all of the supplies that we will need: plain yogurt, fruit, vegetables, organic peanut butter, etc. The only added sugars I normally have are the honey in my tea, cream and sugar in my coffee and the sugar in my flavored greek yogurt, so I assumed that I would be sitting pretty in this 10 day challenge.
5:50 a.m. Well I just woke up so, I have no opinion.
8:00 a.m. No honey allowed in the tea...so I put half and half in my green tea...it wasn't as delicious as honey.
11:00 a.m. No cream or sugar in my coffee, so I try "bullet coffee"....stomached two very small sips before dumping the cup.
12:00 p.m. The headache started.
2:00 p.m. I tried a cup of vanilla black chai...and some Advil.
4:30 p.m. My master plan for dinner was foiled but secret sugar in the ingredients list, SO grilled cheese it is.
7:00 p.m. WE DID IT
END THOUGHTS: We made it the whole day. The food was delicious as always but the caffeinated beverages need some work.
